About City Food Tours

The unique concept behind City Food Tours was developed in New York City when Joyce Weinberg, a seasoned food industry professional with more than 20 years of experience, wanted to share her passion for fine foods. From managing Fortune 500 confectionery businesses, to buying gourmet chocolates for Bloomingdales, she’s done it all. 

After five successful years in NYC, local business partners Eric Matzke and Robert Weinberg brought City Food Tours to Philadelphia.  Compared to other existing tours that focus on more common foods, CFT introduces tour guests to a vast offering of high-quality, artisanal foods and encourage them to support local specialty stores, farmers, and sustainable agriculture.  We help people realize that there’s a lot more out there than the processed foods they encounter in mega-marts.

Joyce Weinberg

Joyce Weinberg, founder and highly-regarded food expert and author, has been in the food business for more than 20 years.  She is a recognized authority on artisanal, or handmade foods.  She judges national chocolate contests, conducts programs for The Stone Barns Center, The American Museum of Natural History, The Junior League, The National Association of Specialty Food Retailers, and countless other corporate, private, and non-profit organizations.

Joyce is regularly quoted in the media, heard on the radio, and seen on TV for her food expertise.  She is a former restaurateur, Fortune 500 food brand manager, and teaches at NYU. Joyce is also a catering expert, and her book, "The Everything Guide to The Catering Business," is available at book retailers around the country.

Eric has a passion for everything related to food. From his study of sustainable agriculture and economic botanicals in college to advanced pastry courses at The Philadelphia Restaurant School, he has an insatiable appetite to learn about delicious foods. Eric has extensive tour-guide experience and has planned events for non-profits and convention groups across the US.

Jose Louro

Philadelphia
Jose is also a Penn grad, with experience in event planning and a strong interest in international cuisine and politics.  A New Jersey native, Jose has a strong instrumental and vocal musical background and is known to hum while guiding guests from shop to shop.
